Dumbbells FAQs

How do I use dumbbells?

Dumbbells are truly diverse pieces of fitness equipment. Whether you’re looking to increase fat burn, develop total-body strength or target muscle building in specific areas, a dumbbell can help.

As one of the most accessible and versatile free weights on offer, you can pretty much use a dumbbell in any way you like, depending on the results you’re looking for. To ensure you make the most out of your workout and avoid injury, the one recommendation we have when using dumbbells is to use slow movements which force your core and other stabiliser muscles to engage.

What dumbbell weight should I use?

If you’re unsure of what weight you should be using, we highly recommend investing in a dumbbell set, as this will give you the ability to increase your level of weight training as you need. If you’re looking to improve muscle tone, we suggest picking weights that you can complete 12 to 20 repetitions before feeling fatigued. On the other hand, for building muscle mass, look for a weight you can complete around 8 reps per set.

Why are dumbbells so expensive?

Generally, the weight of dumbbells is one of the biggest reasons for the price. As you go up in weight, the price increases due to the additional materials that go into manufacturing. Shipping is also dependent on weight, so this is another factor to take into consideration. Although they may be more on the expensive side, don’t let the price of dumbbells discourage you. Take it from us - the benefits of having your own dumbbells (and the possible gains that come with them) definitely outweigh the cost!
